Dave Burd, known to the music industry as Lil Dicky, tells us that he was most excited to have Young Thug make a cameo on his critically acclaimed series, “Dave.” The series is in the running for several Emmys this year, including Best Comedy Series, as well as Best Actor for Dave Burd, Best Supporting Actor for GaTa, and Best Supporting Actress for Taylor Misiak. The series has just been renewed for a second season, and it has surpassed Donald Glover’s “Atlanta” as the most watched comedy series on FX.
We recently had the opportunity to ask Lil Dicky (and co-star GaTa about his favorite cameo on “Dave” over a Zoom call.
Music News & Rumors: “The show is packed with famous guest stars. Who were you most excited to bring on the show?”
Dave Burd: “Young Thug, no question. I mean, I hate to pick favorites, but I can’t lie. In terms of just the happiness level that I felt when Young Thug was on set. I’m such a big Young Thug fan, and prior to that moment, I didn’t even know that he knew I existed. When I was told that Young Thug was coming, I actually didn’t even believe it. I thought it was hearsay. And then when he came, it was just… I couldn’t… I was so happy.
Especially because it’s really quite a complex maze. It’s not as easy as it might seem to get these celebrity cameos. There’s a lot of moving pieces, and, like, one guy’s available one day, and then, all of a sudden, he’s not. It’s very difficult. Sometimes, you just have to get what happens on that day, and you need someone to come.
Justin Bieber is the biggest star in the world, but I had met him, and I knew that he liked me as a person. Young Thug, I had never met, and I didn’t even know if he knew who I was. I remember he said, like, ‘Man, you’re on your shit now,’ and, like, I’ll never forget him saying that. I know how much GaTa likes Young Thug, too. Don’t you think, GaTa, that that day was like a ‘we made it’ kind of moment for us?”
GaTa: “Oh, for sure. That’s like having the modern-day Lil Wayne pull up to your video shoot.”
Dave Burd: “Yeah, and it’s not even a video, it’s a TV show. Like, Young Thug making his acting debut in our show.”
The complete season 1 of “Dave” is currently streaming on Hulu.
