One of Us Is Lying premiered its first three episodes exclusively on Peacock this week, and this young adult murder mystery drama might just be your next TV obsession!
Five students get detention on the first day of school, and they all go in together after school. But only four of those students make it out of detention alive. Simon, who runs a gossip app among the school spilling the tea and leaking gossip about his peers, suffers an allergic reaction from his deathly peanut allergy. Was it an accident, though, or was someone in on his death? Adapted from the novel of the same name by Karen M. McManus and starring Marianly Tejada, Cooper Van Grootel, Chibuikem Uche, Annalisa Cochrane, Mark McKenna, Barrett Carnahan, Jessica McLeod, and Melissa Collazo, I could easily see One of Us Is Lying becoming one of the most popular projects from Peacock yet.
It fits very much into the vein of shows like Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl while maintaining its own unique identity to stand out among the YA-murder-mystery genre. There’s also an element that mirrors The Breakfast Club if it were to have taken an extremely dark turn. You have a secret-teller who stirs up trouble among the teens, but there’s also a death at the center of it all with a whodunnit storyline. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide, but who actually did it?
