With one of the more star-studded casts of a TV series lately, The Afterparty on Apple TV+ stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou, and Dave Franco. Seeing these typically funny actors take on this dramatic-murder-mystery-whodunnit is one of the real highlights of the show because everybody completely crushes their role.
Set at the afterparty of a high school reunion, these characters all must face the chaos surrounding a shocking death where they’re all a suspect. Tiffany Haddish plays the detective questioning each of the characters to uncover any possible motives and hearing each character’s version of the story. Each episode gets us closer to the shocking truth, but, rest assured, we have a fair bit of fun along the way.
Each episode follows a similar format: one of the high school reunion afterparty attendees being interviewed by Tiffany Haddish as they recount their version of the night’s events. On paper, that may sound grueling to sit through for multiple episodes, but it never gets boring thanks to these funny actors and their revolving door of storytelling approaches. Already drawing comparisons to Hulu’s similarly star-studded affair with Only Murders in the Building, I think it’s safe to say that The Afterparty is only getting started.
