The highly-anticipated new series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, just premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Based on books by Jenny Han, the bestselling author and ecectuvie producer behind Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, this new series is her first foray into television.
I’m going to go ahead and call it, but this is about to be the next big teen / young adult hit show sensation of the summer. There’s something for everyone to love here. The teenage moments feel relatable without coming across like that Steve Buscemi “how do you do, fellow kids” meme. The moments with the moms will be instantly relatable to parents. And the friendship and relationship storylines are universally relatable feelings.
Navigating a romance, dealing with several life-changing events, and bouncing back and forth between challenges that both teenagers and adults deal with throughout their lives, this series takes a sensitive and thoughtful approach to telling an endearing story in a really convincing way.
It might be hard to turn off each episode, and you’ll be tempted to just keep clicking on to watch the next episode until you’ve reached the end. However, be at ease knowing that The Summer I Turned Pretty has already been renewed for a second season!
