Film Review: ‘The Batman’ (dir. Matt Reeves)

The film opens with a title card featuring almost comically large text that reads “THE BATMAN,” filling the entire screen in a tall, skinny, red, sans serif font. Somehow, that was already a good sign.

Super Soundtrack: ‘Kimi’ (dir. Steven Soderbergh) on HBO Max

Kimi is now streaming on HBO Max, and Steven Soderbergh’s latest film boasts an interesting soundtrack. The music and score for the movie is actually pretty minimal, but there are some astounding musical moments going on here.

Film Review: ‘Kimi’ (dir. Steven Soderbergh) on HBO Max

Subdued but simultaneously compelling, ‘Kimi’ had a plan, it knew what it wanted to do, and it executed it. It didn’t need to be more than 90 minutes long, and it was the better for its compact presentation.

Super Soundtrack: ‘The Tender Bar’ on Prime Video

Featuring one of the most specifically time-period relevant soundtracks, The Tender Bar soundtrack successfully combines the greatest hits from the late 1960’s, 1970’s, and early 1980’s with some lesser known songs by the biggest artists during that time.

Film Review: ‘The Tender Bar’ (dir. George Clooney)

This is such a relatable but personal story that I feel many will share a pretty heartfelt connection. The script is really a cocktail of life lessons, and there are so many instantly quote-able lines. Ben Affleck is the cool uncle you always wanted, and Tye Sheridan, Daniel Ranieri, and Lily Rabe are all great here.

Film Review: ‘The 355’ (dir. Simon Kinberg)

This stellar ensemble cast is weight down by a predictable and often bland story despite ‘The 355’s cultural variety and incredibly well choreographed action sequences.

Film Review: ‘Red Rocket’ (dir. Sean Baker)

The crisp cinematography, striking color palette, and calculated camerawork made this absolutely fascinating eye candy (and with such great substance of a story, too).

Film Review + Super Soundtrack: ‘Sing 2’

Luckily, Sing 2 hits all the right notes that the first Sing film did. These characters are hard not to love, and you really do almost forget that they’re animated. It also succeeds at aiming its story toward both adults and children alike. Who would’ve thought that a story about singing elephants, pigs, gorillas, and porcupines could be so touching?
