Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is finally, finally, finally here after what feels like a lifetime of waiting. Along with the movie, there is also a companion album aptly titled Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album featuring a myriad of Asian-American artists, which goes perfectly with the inclusive themes and global reach of the film.
Spencer Sutherland stars in Afterlife of the Party alongside Victoria Justice and Midori Francis, and the film premiered on Netflix today. Crossing over from the music world into acting, Afterlife of the Party is Spencer’s feature film debut. I am always a fan of when music meshes with movies and TV, and this is a perfectly suited combination.
The tenth installment of American Horror Story: Double Feature premiered Wednesday, August 25 on FX. The first part of this season (the first six episodes) is subtitled Red Tide, and the second part of this season is subtitled Death Valley. Featuring a few of our AHS favorites plus some new faces, the cast includes Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Leslie Grossman, Angelica Ross, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Macaulay Culkin, Adina Porter, Billie Lourd, Denis O’Hare, Cody Fern, and Kaia Gerber.
Season two of The Other Two premiered Thursday, August 26 on HBO Max. Starring Drew Tarver, Heléne Yorke, Molly Shannon, Case Walker, Ken Marino, this season also features guest stars Wanda Sykes, Brandon Scott Jones, Josh Segarra, Gideon Click, Alessia Cara, Bowen Yang, Noah Galvin, and more. Season one of The Other Two originally aired on Comedy Central in 2019 and debuted as a Max Original series in April. All episodes of season one are available now to stream on HBO Max for you to get caught up if you haven’t already.
Candyman directed by Nia DaCosta starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tony Todd, and Vanessa Williams opened in theaters today. You can read my review of the film here, but the movie’s soundtrack features a variety of songs from Fiona Apple to Jamila Woods. Let’s talk about the soundtrack….
Candyman (2021) is a reboot while simultaneously acting as a semi-sequel, however, it never entirely commits to being either one. Having seen the original 1992 film would only enhance your understanding of who the Candyman is, but this 2021 edition also easily stands on its own. There are several glimpses of brilliance, but it never entirely amounts to what it aimed to do.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a blast from start to finish. Packed with action, drop in some drama and make it complete with comedy. This cast works so well together on screen with such chemistry, and they really elevate one another’s performance. Everything felt so fresh and unique in the best ways, and I think everyone will be pleased with different aspects of the movie.

Nine Perfect Strangers premiered on Hulu today, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the biggest shows of the summer (maybe even of the year?)! Based on the bestselling book by Liane Moriarty, Nine Perfect Strangers is set at a boutique health and wellness resort led by Masha (Nicole Kidman) promising its 9 guests a better way of living following their 10-day retreat.
Fans and critics are already comparing the show to Friday Night Lights, so that’s some pretty high praise. Similar to that show, the soundtrack plays a role itself in the series. Jeff Cardoni composed the score for the series, which does an absolutely incredible job at building up the intensity of the scenes and adding even more hype. Jonathan Leahy is the music supervisor for the show, responsible for curating the songs for the series’ soundtrack.
